Is your website one of the many that does nothing for you? Are your potential
customers using search engines but simply not finding you?
Would you like to spend as little as £1 per day advertising your products or services to potential
customers who are actually looking for exactly those products or services?
Well... you are on the right track. You have a website and you are aware that you need to do
something about marketing or selling your company on the Web. If you don't have a website yet
getting one is simple and probably a lot less expensive than you might imagine - click here
for details. Updating an old or poorly performing website needn't be too dificult either.
Marketing your website
There are 4 areas associated with marketing on the internet...
- Email shots
- Search engines
- Links
- Paid advertising
Of course the marketing of your website should encompass non-internet, traditional,
marketing techniques too, getting your website address seen anywhere and everywhere:
on your stationery, your vehicles, brochures etc. etc.
For now tho we're looking at internet based marketing techniques.
Email shots
Just like traditional mail shots only using email instead of 'snail-mail'. These don't
really require a website but it helps - you
can use material from your website and/or provide links to your website in the email.
Used with care email can be a great way to 'farm' existing clients and keep them coming back
to your website when you post something new.
Search engines
Search engine optimisation (SEO) is something that has to be considered when your site is
being developed or re-developed. The design of your site and the appropriate use of
key words and phrases relevant to your products is fundamental to your site's search engine
performance. There are other factors too, perhaps the most important
being inbound links - into your site from other relevant sites. Getting a new site listed and
reasonably well ranked in search engines can be a lengthy and often experimental process.
Links
Creating links to and from your web site will increase the number of visitors to your site and,
as long as they are interested visitors, will hopefully increase your sales. The trick here
is to ensure that the links into your site come from relevant websites, which
attract visitors who are likely to be interested in your products and services too. Such
inbound links will also improve your own site's search engine ranking too.

Paid for advertising - pay per click
Internet advertising paid for by result is perhaps the most revolutionary marketing tool to appear
in recent years. You pay for your ads but only when a potential customer responds to
them by clicking on them and being taken to your website. Actually distributing the ad
costs you nothing. Not only does it get your
advertisments in front of interested customers but it does so at the time that
they actively looking for your products or services using search engines.
On top of that paid for advertising gives you rapid and detailed feedback about your marketplace
and how your products and services fit into it. As potential buyers are driven to your
website you can analyse what they are looking for, experiment to see what prices are attractive
to them, and even get an idea of how many potential customers are out there.
Pay per click campaigns
You can create and manage PPC advertising yourself on Google or Overture (who handle PPC for
Yahoo, MSN Search, Ask Jeeves and others), or you can sub-contract the work to a client manager
who operates PPC advertsing campaigns online. You can still log into your own advertising
account and see the results of your advertising 24x7, but you get a push up the learning curve and
experienced professional help in managing your advertising and interpretting the results.
Abbeydale campaign management
At Abbeydale we can create and manage your campaigns online, we will analyse your PPC performance and,
from the feedback, advise how to hone your campaign and improve your business.
