Abbeydale's Quick Start package gets your organisation on to the internet quickly
and efficiently with a minimal outlay. To take advantage of this special
price you must already have an internet connection, ie. you must have an account
with an internet service provider (ISP) and be able surf the internet, but that is
all. (If you don't have one, click here to see how
Abbeydale can help you.) The package includes everything else you need to make
your on-line presence felt...
- the web site itself, one or two pages plus a contact page and
a map to help clients find you.
- a .uk domain name if you don't already have one, eg.
www.yourcompany.co.uk (depending on availability).
- email: mailboxes or redirection from your domain to your current email address.
- a variety of styles for the look and feel of your site.
- a free update to your site within the first 6 months
Internet service providers (ISPs) often provide a limited amount of free web
space where your site can be hosted tho this may not be suitable. Some ISPs provide
free space only to non-commercial users, others place pop-up adverts over your site, so
this may mean having your site hosted elsewhere. Abbeydale can check
this for you and, if necessary, arrange alternative hosting - tho there will be
a small additional cost - typically around £25 per year for a small site.
Your site can be in your company's colours, with your logo or letterhead style graphic
at the top of each page, and can take one of a number of styles as detailed below.
All styles include bold heading text and keywords to be picked up by search engines
and can contain cross reference links within the site and to other sites. Your
quick start site can be used as the basis for a bigger site at a later date if you need
to grow.
If you have seen other styles elsewhere then tell us and we will try to incorporate the
features you like in your own site.

Two column 'magazine' style
Magazine pages are generally multi-column and have pictures and text spread
more or less throughout the pages. This works well for web-sites tho you must
bear in mind the restricted space on a screen compared with a magazine page:
site visitors don't like having to scroll way down to the bottom of one column only
to scroll back up again to start the next column! With a little thought the two
column style can be attractive. Abbeydale's own site is in two column format and
this one also has a menu column on the left...

Tabular style
This style suits a site showing a number of photographs or drawings along with
captions or brief text descriptions - prices perhaps...
Single column 'flat' style
The flat style is most useful if your site will typically be viewed on small
screens or has images or other content that can't be broken up into sections,
but can be used for almost any content, as below...
Other formats
Even a simple site needn't be limited in style - sidebar headings provide an
attractive way to include bullet points or highlights in the text. The site below began
as a Quick Start site but quickly grew into something more, including downloadable documents in PDF
format and online payments using Paypal.
